Overheating issue

  • I just got my Tilt Five a few days ago and it worked fine for the first 15 minutes or so. Then it would occasionally blank out for a second or two. As more time passed it did it more often and for longer until maybe half an hour or so later it would spend more time off than on.
When it goes out the left projector seems to turn off a fraction of a second before the right one and then they eventually turn on together.
If I unplug the headset and let it stand for some time then it works properly again for another 10 to 15 minutes.

Since it seemed to me like some overheating problem I tried holding a small battery powered fan over the headset while using it. This is of course very tiring but I found that I could keep the headset running indefinitely like that, or at least until my arm gives up with fatigue.

I checked all the ventilation holes and as far as I can tell they are all free from any obstruction.

I read in one of the firmware release notes that the fan control was changed from variable to constant speed at some point. I wonder whether maybe it needs to be changed back to variable, or perhaps set to maximum speed if it isn't already. Then again I don't know if this is a common fault or just something wrong with my specific headset.

  • @AJ-T5-Support
Hi, I just replied to your email. I had completely missed the communication here. I had started using the T5 forum on Discord and forgot about this one.

Just one thing I forgot to mention in the email, I did upgrade to 1.2.1 but it did not solve the problem. It does seem that it lasts a bit longer before the problem starts but I don't know if that is real, just a perception or perhaps because the weather cooled down a little.

    Thanks and best regards
    Christian

  • Hi Christian,

I wanted to follow up on the projector issue you were reporting. Have you had a chance to try the 1.2 drivers yet? Did they resolve the issue for you?

If not, please provide diagnostic logs from the Tilt Five Control Panel app to help provide some insight into the problem. Instructions to capture the logs are in my previous reply. Thanks!

  • Hi Christian,

I wanted to check in and see if the glasses were working ok after updating to 1.2 or if you are still experiencing the projector issue you were reporting.

If you are still having issues, please provide logs using the instructions below and not the ones from my previous message.

    1. On the Tilt Five Control Panel app, select the Menu button in the upper left, ☰
    2. Select the option for Settings
    3. Under Diagnostics turn on Enhanced Logging
    4. Play as normal until you encounter the left projector shutoff issue you are reporting again.
    5. Under Diagnostics select Save log package and make a note of the file location
    6. Attach the log file in your email reply to us
    7. Under Diagnostics turn off Enhanced Logging

Thanks in advance for your reply!

  • Hi Christian,

Thanks for your patience. Our developer team is still investigating the left projector issue and reviewing the logs we have received from other users.

We'd like a set of logs from you as well but first, please install and try the Tilt Five 1.2 system software that was recently made available. You can download the latest drivers from tiltfive.com/downloads.

Once you have updated the 1.2 drivers, please use the glasses as normal, and if you experience the same issue with the left projector shutting off please send us a set of logs from the 1.2 version software using the instructions below.

    1. Play as normal until you encounter the left projector shutoff issue you are reporting again.
    2. On the Tilt Five Control Panel app, select the Menu button in the upper left, ☰
    3. Select the option for Settings
    4. Under Diagnostics turn on Enhanced Logging
    5. Under Diagnostics select Save log package
    6. Save the log file and make note of the location
    7. Attach the log file in an email sent to support@tiltfive.com

As soon as we get your logs we can have someone from the dev team take a look, to hopefully provide some insight into what if any impact the 1.2 drivers had on the issue. Thanks!
